The role of a mediator is to be the neutral and impartial third party without a dog in the fight that can help the parties communicate with each other, help them talk about the issues that they’re having, the motives behind those, and help them come up with some solutions to those problems. The goal is to try and reach a mediated settlement agreement at the end. Sometimes that’s not possible, but their goal is to listen to both sides but just not take a side and help those parties try and work out, the best they can, their differences in the case.
