Collaborative divorce is one of the methods of alternative dispute resolution. Typically each party hires their own attorney, a collaborative law attorney, and the parties together will hire a mental health expert as well as a financial expert, and all of those parties, as part of that process, agree that none of the case will be litigated or go before a judge to make a judge make a decision.
The goal of hiring these experts is to help all of the parties become fully informed, and to try and resolve the case and work it out by negotiating. A benefit is that its usually less stressful and less hostile, and it can reach a resolution sometimes a lot more quickly than litigating the case all the way to conclusion at a final hearing.
